Hangin' out with Rachel at HANGOUT Festival

Everyone meet our newest contributor Rachel!!

Rachel is a free-spirited Savannah-native who spends her summers working on movie sets and traveling the country to go to music festivals simply for her passion for music. She went to Hangout Festival with her friend Jordan in Gulf Shores last weekend repping Mamie Ruth. Below she shares some details of her trip!

Around 6AM the morning after an amazing My Morning Jacket show in Athens, GA, Jordan and I squeezed in the car with our friends Owen, Callie, and Jubee and hit the road for Gulf Shores, AL to catch days three and four of Hangout Fest. We changed into our bikinis and kimonos in the car, dropped our bags at the condo, headed to the beach, and hit the ground running,

Father John Misty

First things first, we checked out the artist lounge, grabbed some cocktails and raw oysters, and soaked in the scenery for a bit before going to meet up with some friends at Odesza. After that we sat by the pool and watched Drive By Truckers, played a little chess, then set out for Father John Misty followed by Skrillex. After fueling up on some messy s’mores, we closed out the night with Zach Brown Band who blew us away with a combo of originals + all the covers we didn’t realize we were dying to hear.

DAY TWO.

We put on our tanning oil and got started rocking the Malibu tent with Autograph followed by JackLNDN, who we styled in a Mamie kimono for his set.

LNDN blew us away and got our endorphins flowing for the day with his combo of original electronic jams and mixes of old faves like “We are Family” and “Heard it Through the Grapevine”.

When it was time for My Morning Jacket I set out on a solo mission, my goal to watch the show from the best seat in the house. Mission accomplished and I got some awesome photos and a video of “Victory Dance”.

Beck closed out the festival and played an awesome show as well, giving us exactly the mix of old and new we were all hoping for.

Not going to lie, the ride home was a little rough although one highlight was stopping at the famous Flora-Bama where Jordan played Bingo and won us a gift certificate to the Crab Trap. After grubbing on some gulf style seafood we hit the road, parted with our festie family in Athens and made our way back to Savannah. Now it’s time to wash a few clothes, take a couple naps and get ready to head up to Counterpoint on Thursday.

To be continued….
